Frequently asked questions
Handcrafted soaps naturally have a high glycerin content, which is great for your skin – but it also means the soap requires a place to dry out between uses. The glycerin contained in the soap is a humectant and therefore attracts water. If left in standing water, the soap will break down very quickly.
To prolong the lifespan of your soap, do not allow it to sit in a location or container that allows water to pool in the bottom. Instead, please store your soap in a dry place out of the stream of water, and on a draining soap dish. A “soap saver” (an oval disk with raised nubs) placed in the bottom of your favorite soap dish will help keep it dry.
Unused soaps can and should be stored in a cool, dry place. A linen closet or lingerie drawer is perfect. (Plus, the soap will make your items smell good as well!)
Precautions: As with any soap, keep it out of your eyes (rinse thoroughly with plain water if this occurs), and discontinue using if irritation develops. Be sure to check the ingredients if you have allergies. Soap is very slippery when wet, so please take care not to step on a wet bar while in the tub or shower. And finally, we know the soaps smell really, really good, but please do not eat the soap. Not only will it not taste as good as it smells, but it could make you ill. If you do accidentally ingested the soap, please contact your nearest emergency physician services center and follow their advice, as directed.
Every time you light your candle, please be sure to allow sufficient burn-time to create a melted wax pool that spans the entire surface of the candle, extending to the edges of the container. This will prevent the wax from “stair stepping” down the center of your candle which can cause the subsequent burn to flood and extinguish the wick.
To trim the wick for our double-wood-wick candles, just pinch the top of the completely cooled wick before relighting and it will trim itself (break off) to the appropriate height.
Keep your candle free of any foreign materials, including matches and wick trimmings.
Only burn the candle on a level, fire-resistant surface.
For best scent retention and throw, do not burn the candle for more than three hours at a time or no more than a 1/2” depth of melted wax.
WARNING: To prevent fire and serious injury, always burn the candle within your line of sight. Keep away from drafts and vibrations. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Never burn the candle on or near anything that can catch fire.
